MARCH 2003 |
30th March 2003
Went home back to London yesterday. Met up with Lc and drove about in his shiny super 1337 FTO for a little while. Went down to see G-r0 too whose mum & sister made us a really great lunch. It was awesome to meet up again, we should do it more often.

Finally, the day we install our server! An early afternoon road trip where Ben, Markus, Jon, Sladen, Jo, Tom, Sid & I go down to London. 2 cars, 4 laptops, a UPS, 3 digital cameras, 2 walkie talkies and lots of other random stuff was also required for the trip. We got an Ad-Hoc wireless network connection going between the two cars on the M1 as we were going down, and it was working pretty well too. We could chat across it, Jon could perfectly stream mp3s from my laptop, and I could stream DivXs over (no framedrop) from his. It was awesome. Sid had his Vaio C1, so we were going to try videoconferancing, but I didn't have gnomemeeting installed to view it :( Ah well, got to Telehouse Docklands in a few hours and we were met with a load of security guards. I suppose a Volvo estate and VW Polo full of 20 year old geeks including a hooded German, some fat guy in a half-suit, some burly guy driving wearing a pair of Oakleys, an excitable man with long hair, a tall asian guy with a mohawk and another guy called Hussein is kinda scary. The security at Telehouse is pretty awesome. We installed our machine in a Jump Networks rack in TFM4, and ended up having a mini LAN party for a little while with lots of laptops on wireless. Well, it had to happen when we all happened to have our machines and there was 100Mb internet connection available. After all that mayhem we went out for a celebratory Sushi, Dinner and drove back. Visit our machine here, and there are some photos too.

I ordered a new power supply for our 1U server (dmesg) yesterday at 15:30, and today at 10:30 it was here waiting to be plugged in. The service at TMC is pretty damn good. Anyway, our box is fully built, all the hardware is together, its neat, fast and pretty smooth. Its going to be installed some time soon in London, and there will be more details then.

Matt and Dan came over today! It was great fun, Jon, Ceri, Sid, Pooja, Becci, Matt, Dan and I went out for a meal at Topo Gigio in town. It was classy, the food was good and not too expensive. I'm definately going back sometime.

Becci was asking why there is nothing to do with Mighty Mouse on my webpage, so, just for you...

Mr. Trouble never hangs around
When he hears this mighty sound... "Here I come to save the day!" That means that Mighty Mouse is on the way. Yessir when there is a wrong to right Mighty Mouse will join the fight On the sea or on the land He gets the situation well in hand So though we are in danger We never despair Cause we know that where there's danger He is there! He is there! On the land! On the sea! In the air! We're not worryin' at all We're just listenin' for his call "Here I come to save the day!" That means that Mighty Mouse is on the way! |

Building our server (more details later!) today. Got the 1U case, mobo, cpu, drives and other bits over at Jons house. I was bored and thought I'd maybe put the board, processor and drives together so when the RAM arrives, we can drop it in and go. For a laugh, I thought I'd plug the power supply in to the mains since it did not have a P4 header, and if it was quiet I could swap it for the one in my SV25 which does. *BANG*. A nice big white spark and loud pop as the supply blows itself up. Greeaaat.

Track of the day: The Cardigans - Explode
2nd March 2003
I went to see Jackass the Movie today. Some of it was quite funny, but just as Ceri said... "Some of it makes you feel sorry for the human race". It was ok though, I went with Craig, and we got to mess about. I took my camera, we took photos for a laugh, and played GTA: Vice City on the Playstation for a while back at his house. It was good fun.
Track of the day: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
1st March 2003
I was asked by F1 Karting to take some promotional photos for them since they have a new Quad-Biking track. Sid came along and we both got to see Matt too - which is always great fun :) We got to go Karting and I think I'm getting a little faster, though I think maybe I should brake less to get faster times. I can't wait to go back and try out the Quads with Matt and Sid, hopefully sometime soon. I borrowed Mikes Canon G2 for the day, which is an extremely nice camera. Sid used his Sony P1 and Matt had my Canon IXUS V2. I think at some point in the future I may need to upgrade to something nice... I really want a Canon G3.
